One of two excellent accommodations in the vast Kwando Concession, Lagoon Camp is the most northerly, overlooking the Kwando River and the Mudumu National Park in Namibia. This remote wilderness is a sensational wildlife playground, with vast herds of elephant and buffalo during the dry season and a high volume of attendant predators. The area is particularly renowned for wild dog, with the part-resident Lagoon pack often denning within site of camp, leading to a deserved reputation as possibly the best place to view wild dog in Botswana. This hive of animal activity can be enjoyed in a range of activities, including day and night game drives, nature walks and boat cruises on the river. Kwando Safaris operate all of their game drives with a guide and tracker, increasing the chance of animal sightings and freeing up the guide to answer questions and provide further detail.
Previously regarded as the most simple of Kwando Safaris’ camps, Lagoon underwent a thorough makeover in 2011 to provide high levels of comfort and facilities. There are eight thatched chalets with canvas walls, raised on decks with private verandas for expansive river views. Each is spacious and relatively minimal, with understated furnishings and sizeable en-suite bathrooms that include a bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers . The central lodge has numerous open areas to allow guests to watch the river traffic, including a swimming pool, lounge, viewing deck, bar and dining area. Lagoon is an enticing camp that combines perfectly on itineraries with Kwando’s other safari outposts.
