One of only two permanent accommodations within the remote Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Kalahari Plains is in the northern region of the reserve, roughly 20km from Deception Valley. An oasis in the vegetated dunes and grassy plains, the camp is beautifully designed to stay cool and blend in seamlessly with its surrounds. There are ten tented chalets, raised on wooden platforms to avoid the harsh heat of the desert floor and provide excellent views. Each has en-suite facilities, a private veranda and an ingenious rooftop sleepout platform for nights under the stars! The main lodge is also elevated, with a lounge, dining area and bar under canvas, as well as a decked swimming pool and an open campfire area. Activities explore the unique landscapes and shimmering salt pans by vehicle or on foot, with excellent game viewing potential when the rainy season brings plains game and carnivores galore. The Central Kalahari is also known for its San Bushman history, and the camp offers an interpretative Bushman walk to learn more about their unique way of life. Kalahari Plains provides an experience so removed from the traditional Delta safari that the two areas combine perfectly on an itinerary.
