Situated on the south-western edge of Chief’s Island, on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta, is Delta Camp. This rustic safari camp, with an emphasis on peace and tranquility, is set in the forest of a large, palm-studded island, positioned to capture the best views of the surrounding landscape.
Delta Camp is a true eco-camp as the ecology of the Okavango Delta has been considered in every aspect of its design. Accommodation is offered in eight lethaka (reed) chalets each different in design and décor and adapted to fit around the ancient trees of the island forest. Elevated off the forest floor and built of natural materials each chalet is en-suite with hot and cold running water and a shower with a view, mosquito net and solar-powered electric lighting. Delta Camp’s lounge, bar and dining area is well elevated to command a spectacular vista of swamp and riverine forest that lies before it.
A water-based camp, Delta Camp offers twice daily guided nature walks on neighbouring islands, birding and traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursions (excursion length is water level dependent). The mokoro guide is a “man of the swamps” from a local village. Guests also have the opportunity to enjoy a cultural interactive village visit with their guide or relax at the sunset deck in the heart of the island.
