Motorboat cruises in the channels, lagoons and rivers of the Linyanti Wetlands tend to be seasonal, their operation dependent on high water levels. When conditions are favourable, this is a highly enjoyable activity with a more tranquil feel then game drives. Late afternoon cruises can be particularly serene, as you watch the sun set beautifully over the waters with a drink in hand before making your way back to camp for aperitifs and dinner. Wildlife encounters will generally involve hippo, and you will almost certainly see crocodiles basking in the sun, water based antelope running through the shallower waters, and elephant and buffalo arriving to drink and graze.
The varied birdlife on the water is extremely impressive, and it is not unheard of to see predators on the riverbank from a boat, although these are generally scared off by the engine noise. The exact route and duration of your experience will vary depending on the camp and concession. So boating in the Selinda reserve can be on the Selinda Spillway or the Zibadianja Lagoon; within the Kwando Reserve you will take to the picturesque Kwando River; and in the Linyanti Reserve you might get out on the Savute Channel or the Linyanti River, depending on your accommodation.
